First started as a May-day festival on Hall Bank in 1922 by a school girl, Lily Green. Mary Richards was the first Queen In 1924 it became a officially recognized event .
There was a long procession that wound its way through the village. Included were morris dancers, brass bands, decorated tractor drawn floats with the queen and her attendants riding a fine horse drawn carriage. The procession ended at the Old Hall Field opposite the victory hall where there were side stalls, morris dancing, maypole dancing and the crowning ceremony took place. The event continued up until 1939, the start of the second world war.
The festival restarted in 1960 and continues today, with the same enthusiam now as it did then. The event is always held on the first Saturday in June, starting at the Victory hall and ending at the Old Hall Field. The event always attracts large crowds , this popular Mobberley tradition is enjoyed by both young and old.
